Nicki; Wonderful! A handful of chicks is my definition of Spring! Sadly it it still snowing here with lows in the teens! But my hens are definitely in a broody mood so it won't be long now. Good luck with the birds, I can see a few show winners there already! Howard

They are looking really good! I think the one on the perch is trying to figure out if its a boy or a girl! Howard

Good photos Nicki. Keep them coming. You are helping everybody by showing what the chicks look like & what they will become. We'll have to call your posts the "Chick Diaries From Nicki."

The birds I got from Mary Ann are the very friendliest. I have to be careful when I open their doors because they will fly into my arms, and these are adults. I have a question though, in the second picture on the left on of them has black coming in over it's back. That is what some of mine here look like. So are you still growing those out to look for type in breeding? I read a post here that suggested that those may throw the better tail color. What do you all think?

Some of my original Nankins fly up on me when I open their pen too LOL. One of them almost landed on my head the other day

Dear Friends; Using my hovabator and broody hens, I have finally got 42 Nankin chicks on the ground. Pretty good for me up in the Taconic Mtn of New York State. Weather has been weird here like it has been elsewhere, early warm week of spring followed by a week of rain, low temps in the 20's. Expected to moderate this week. Couple more chicks and I will call it a breeding season. For those who like stats-hovabator hatches about 40-50% of fertile eggs and hens hatch about 90%. With Mother's Day on the way it seems like a good time to remember Mom still knows best! Howard
