In anticipation of the subject of a future color standard, I would like to make a request. Would anyone who will go to the trouble please do this for me so that I will have a sampling of what you think is the correct color? Clip about 4 full feathers from the neck (hackle), back (saddle) and breast of both a cock bird and a hen, label them as to the area they were on the chicken, tape them to something like an index card and mail them to me. Please keep the roo's and hen's feathers separate. You would obviously not want to do this to a bird that you are going to show in the near future. This will enable me to paint a bird using these feathers as a guideline for the correct shade so that we can discuss it with something tangible in regard to the color. Since computers alter shades and tones when reproducing colors, I think this would be the best approach rather than relying on colors that are posted on the internet. I had thought of asking anyone who was willing to take these samples and scan them and post them on this forum, but I am afraid the colors and tones would not be satisfactory for the reasons stated before. If anyone is willing to do this, please PM me and I'll send my mailing address. If I could have these pretty soon, we could possibly have time to include both the type sketches and the correct color in the Nankin Quarterly for a vote of acceptance. Thanks in advance for your help. Charlie

Charlie;
I would be happy to help with some Nankin feathers but I am not sure if any of them actually match the standard description. I will include a range of feathers as I have a range of colors. Please e-mail me your snail mail address. Howard Kogan, Falling Tree Farm

So how is this project coming along? Did you get a good enough sample of feathers?

AZ, yes, Don, Amy, Mary Ann and Howard all sent feather samples. My problem is time which I haven't had a lot of lately. I never realized just how hard this particular color is to make realistic. I can put down some color in the morning and in the afternoon light it is totally different in tone.......ARRRRGGGHHHHHHH Hopefully, I'll get something done on this tommorrow. Thanks again folks for going to the trouble of sending the feather samples. Charlie
