First I would like to say this months Nankin Quarterly was very informative but it also made me curious.

Don made mention of Mr Dempsey importing eggs in the 60's from England. Is this where all of our current lines got thier start in the U.S?
If this is where the first line originated from how did our birds end up being so much smaller and different in color from the birds in England today?
And if more than one line got imported which I am assuming occurred where are these lines at now?
Also was our standard based on the Dempsey birds or was there Nankins here prior to his aqquiring eggs?
Hope this post made sense I am just intriuged by the birds history here in the States.
 Thanks,
Danny

A good and important question.  Check out the ALBC (American Livestock Breeds Conservancy)book on Nankins by Mark Fields, it has good information on this and other issues.   Howard
PS There is no doubt but that a number of other breeds have been crossed with the Nankins in the USA.  I know personally Mr Dempsey did a number of crosses using OEG's.  I know the fancier he got the OEG from.

Howard,
Thanks for the info, the book by Mark Fields is evidently the Holy Grail of the poultry world.lol I have tried to get a copy of it everywhere with no luck it is out of print with ALBC. My local library is trying to locate a copy of it so we'll see.
