Hi. Just started our Nankin chickens last year. We put  the trio in the Heated Garage last year but now are in the process of building for the winter. Can anyone help me with the Temperatures (Min) that Nankins can tolerate and still perform. Thanks. Jim

Where are you located?  I'm in lower thumb michigan, and we got below 0 with windchill.  I did have to put up some insulation as temps dropped.  I created a section for nightime perching with a ceiling not too far above the perches and sides and ceiling insulated, sort of a cubby, and had a plug in wall heater "soleil".  Kept it on the low setting, just enough to keep water melted.  the heat trapped by perches at night.  Tried no heat and did have some frostbite.  Of course, it got so cold here for a spell that even my hardy large fowl girls had trouble.  I also tried radiator heaters, and they were ok with grates over them.  Of course, roasted poop is dusty.  Tried heat lamps, and even with 3" screws, chains and grates they got knocked off and started a fire.  I found for me, though that the wall heater was cleaner and more effective, and used the same electric as just a water fountain de icer while keeping water melted and warming birds.
They liked to roost on the radiators....can you say burned feet?  No rooster fighting all winter, though, and they did go out in the snow on mild days.  Good luck.   Laureen

I am in Minnesota. We had -25 F last year.  I like the insulated perch idea.

Here in upstate New York it regularly gets to 10 to 15 below zero and I find the electric oil filled radiator works well but it needs to be covered by a wide board so the birds do not poop on it and it should be a few inches from the top of the radiator to the covering board so they don't burn their feet.  I hope this is helpful, it is getting colder!  Howard

Y'all need to move to South Carolina.  We never have problems with the cold.
